Similarly, resveratrol, found in red grapes is another important remedy for cold sores. Also, black currants, if included in your diet can help cure cold sores. Chewing licorice is also considered an excellent remedy for cold sores.

Topical Remedies

Given that cold sores are usually visible sores, there are several topical remedies to cure it. Applying lotion containing lemon balm is an excellent remedy for such cold sores. Moreover, lemon balm is known to reduce the recurrence of such sores in a person.

Alternatively, you could also apply peppermint oil or witch hazel on these sores; both are excellent cold sore remedies that are readily available today. Rhubarb and sage cream is also an excellent way to cure these sores. You can also use ice to help you overcome cold sores; make sure that you rub ice over the affected region several times in a day.

Alternatively, you could apply a warm tea bag on your blisters or sores for 30 minutes and repeat it on an hourly basis. Finally, you could also apply cold milk on these sores, which help relieve the pain.

Irrespective of the type of cold sore remedies you use, it is important to ensure that you do not overexpose your skin or the affected area to the sun. Applying sunscreen lotion on the affected area, will help prevent aggravating the problem. Also ensure that you do not use any harsh chemicals or cosmetics to hide these sores. Finally, avoid picking at these sores as this will only help spread the virus.
