Migraine headaches are vascular headaches caused by the enlargement of the blood vessels, which cause the nerve fibers to release certain chemicals that coil around the arteries. These chemicals increase the pain in the area while causing inflammation as well as additional enlargement of the arteries.

Migraine headaches are often caused in the sympathetic nervous system. Following are some of the common migraine symptoms experienced by those suffering from such headaches.

Excruciating Pain

One of the most common migraine symptoms includes excruciating pain in the head, which is often restricted to one side of the head. This pain is throbbing or pulsing in nature and is anywhere from moderate to severe in terms of intensity.

Pain usually occurs in the forehead or in the back of the head or around the eyes. It is important to note that despite the pain usually being restricted towards one side of the head, it could extend to both sides in some cases.

Moreover, in cases where the pain is on one side, different migraine attacks occur on different sides of the head. It is also important to understand that this pain is almost always aggravated by physical activity.

Other symptoms

Other migraine symptoms include nausea and vomiting, which often accompany the pain. Often migraine headaches are accompanied by intolerance to sudden or bright lighting as well as sound.

In fact, most people suffering from such headaches are extremely sensitive to light as well as sound. Nausea and vomiting causes their faces to become extremely pale. Moreover, they are also prone to cold feet and cold hands as well as diarrhea, all of which are considered common migraine symptoms today.

Warning symptoms

In certain cases, people suffering from migraines exhibit certain warning symptoms, which include excessive sleepiness, irritability, constant yawning and fatigue.

Some people experience depression before a migraine headache while others experience euphoria. Moreover, there is a distinct craving for salty or sweet foods, before a migraine attack.

It is important to note that these warning migraine symptoms are common to nearly sixty percent of the patients. In fact, these symptoms allow the patient to be prepared for such attacks, by either lying down in a dark room or taking the required medication.
