Our modern day lifestyle exposes us to a variety of toxins. Some are present in the food we eat; some are present in the air we breathe, in the water we drink.
There are so many sources from which we are taking in toxins. They accumulate within our body and cause various diseases. Common complaints like indigestion, constipation, allergies are the first signs of development of more serious health problems. We certainly cannot escape from living in this world but there are several things that we can do to regularly detoxify our body and to keep it functioning at its best.
Fasting once in fifteen days is an excellent way of detoxifying the body. But the best time for going on a fast is when you feel that your digestive system is not functioning properly. The fast would give it a chance to repair and rejuvenate itself. Going on a fast does not mean you cannot even take in water. In fact taking water is very important for proper elimination of accumulated toxins. It would be much more helpful if warm water with lime juice is taken regularly on the day of fasting. You can also include juices and steamed vegetables to keep nourishing your body. It would also be helpful to include nuts and seeds. Break your fast the next day with a light breakfast of apple stew and some oatmeal.
Make sure that you consult your doctor before going on a fast. And in case it is not a suitable option for you, you can go in for a mono diet. In this you would be taking only one kind of dish at all times. Going on a khichri diet is extremely beneficial. You can easily get the recipe for khichri from any good website devoted to Ayurveda. You will have to keep in mind that it should be prepared with the least amount of spices.Apart from these, you should regularly take in detoxifying substances in your day-to-day life. Every morning eat the contents of an aloe vera leaf on an empty stomach. You can also substitute it with aloe vera juice.
