Among all other prominent deaths due to food allergies, peanut allergy cases are maximum. An all-American study reveals the fact these allergies due to peanut takes place within a few minutes after the person has been exposed to it.

The first hand symptoms of peanut allergy ranges from stuffy nose, tightened chest and a continuous irritation round the corner of the mouth. Accompanying the primary symptoms of peanut allergy are commonly noted problems like rapid drop in pulse rate and blood pressure and constriction in the nasal passage.

Researchers and medical professionals are of the opinion that peanut allergy affects about 1.3 percent of the general mass among which 7 percent are siblings.

In some extreme cases of peanut allergy, the suffering patient experiences Anaphylaxis, which is regarded to be an intensive medical condition, which renders the affected unconscious. In such cases of extreme allergies, the patient is treated with an epinephrine injector like an EpiPen.

The symptoms of peanut allergy are generally elusive but they can surface real soon if there occurs a heavy exposure which can be fatal for the patient. Peanut allergy may lead to anaphylactic shock, which occurs due to the ingestion of peanuts. In case of an Anaphylaxis, the affected person experiences heavy swelling (owing to Histamine release), which is generally accompanied by heavy breathing, sudden failure and in some extreme cases death.

In spite of the fact that direct consumption of peanuts is avoided by many of us, peanuts still continue to be a major source of adulterant that is being employed to cook food. It’s lamentable how the Pegasus of medical science has galloped far because there is still no permanent cure for peanut allergy. U.S carriers have noticed a large number of passengers requesting for a “peanut- free- flight.

So it’s evident that many out there are allergic to peanuts and hence it’s important to know your surroundings when you are moving. Recent occurrences of peanut allergy cases  have been cited at the Dedham public school where several children were affected. The school authorities are now retorting to initiate policy that might lead to a peanut free institution.
