Ageing is a multidimensional process of physical and emotional changes in a human body. Exact reasons of ageing are still not known but it has been confirmed that the cells of the body wear out with age and cannot renew themselves as we become old.
Various factors affect the process of ageing such as pollution, genetics, smoking, depletion of hormones, destruction of collagen, reduction in cell turnover rate etc.
There are many different signs of ageing which may vary from person to person. Some of them are:
– Changes in skin and hair such as wrinkles, hair loss, grey hair, spots on skin etc.
– Decrease in energy level and memory.
– Decrease in power of hearing and vision.
– Decrease in libido or sexual dysfunction.
– Some women may experience changes in menstrual cycle.
Fact is that growing old is a part of life and is inevitable process. But you can counteract and delay the process of ageing up to some extent.Always use a sunscreen when going out in the sun. Cleansing the face regularly keeps your skin clean as well as improves cell regeneration process. Vitamin C and E are very good for skin as it helps in producing collagen.
Fight free radicals as they are one of the major causes of ageing and many other diseases such as cancer. Antioxidants play a very important role in reducing damage caused by free radicals. Antioxidants are ingredients such as beta carotene, selenium, zinc, super oxide etc. Increase the intake of antioxidants in your diet.
Stress is a part and parcel of our daily lives but try to find ways to deal with it to get a younger and healthy looking skin. Take a walk, pursue a hobby.
As we grow old, our brain looses many cells in a day. If you want to keep your brain sharp, keep it stimulated by reading, learning something new everyday, and solving challenging puzzles etc.
In late twenties, the metabolism rate of the body starts to slow down. Watch your weight by exercising regularly.
Many companies claim to produce cosmetics which stop or delay the signs of ageing but the truth is that no product can stop the process of ageing. However, with a balanced diet, exercising, and following some basic skin care routines you can counteract and delay or slow the process of ageing.
