Hair Braids: Different styles and different Techniques

Hairs are given different styles according to personal choice, style, outfit, traditions and other consideration. Hair braiding is a very popular kind of hair style which helps keeps long hairs from flowing away. It keeps hairs in place in a very neat way. It also prevents hairs from damage. The women carrying it look very pretty and elegant. Hair braids are easy to make and are elegant. You will have to learn how to braid perfectly. Once you learn it, you can make braid of your hairs or someone else hairs in matter of minutes. For certain braiding styles, you will have to take proper care of hair and scalp. Braid is also called plait but braid refers to more complex ones.

How to Make a Simple Braid:

First of all, get proper comb and something to tie hair like hair band. For a more even textured braid, clean and dry your hair. Divide hairs in three sections. Take all the hair in your non-dominant hand. After that, take right section of hair in right hand. Hold left and middle section of hairs in left hand with the help of thumb, index finger and middle finger. Now place right section over the middle section.

Now take this just braided section in your left hand and middle section in right hand. Then repeat this process for left section of hair. Now hold this in left hand and continue till braid is complete.

Some Important Tips for Hair Braid:

Before making any kind of braid, you should comb your hair very well to even out any knot. Also when you are making braid, be sure to comb in between to smooth any entangling of hairs. After you are done with braiding, comb the ends of the hairs also. Before starting any braid, make your hairs tangle free. Also take out any ring or bracelet you are wearing which may catch into hairs and may pluck them. When you are making braid of a child, ask her to keep her head still otherwise you may not be able to hold hairs properly.

Types of Hair Braids:

 There are several types of hair braids. Lets us take a look at different types of braids.

 English braid: This is the most simple, basic braid. This braid is started at the nape of the neck. The basic action here is left section on middle and right section over middle section. The bottom of the braid is secured by rubber band.

French Braid : This popular braid is much like English Braid but it starts from the hairline on the back of the head and travel down weaving all hairs from either side into a braid. English braid starts from the nape of the neck.

Dutch Braid: The technique of Dutch braid is just like that of French braid but it is made in opposite manner. Instead of usual left-over-middle and right-over-middle technique, it is made by right-under-middle and left-under-middle technique. This type of braid looks like an embossed one and stands out of head. Some people mistakably create Dutch braid while trying to make a French braid.

Heidi braid: Two braids are crossed at the nape of the neck and then pinned on either side of the head to form a crown.

Rope Braid: These are not really braid but look like that. It is made by taking two or three strands and twisted instead of weaving.

Four Strand braid: This braid looks same from all sides and there is no front and back. The pattern it follows is left-under-two-back-over-one and same for the right side.

Crown Braid: it is worn around the head like Heidi braid. But it is different than Heidi braid because instead of wrapping the braids around the head, this is woven around the head in French braid style.

Different styles of the braid can be made by combining two or more braids.

Classic braids are common braids schoolgirls wear on either side of the head. Another kind is cascade braid where back half of the hairs are left loose on the nape of the neck. Other such braids are combination braid and Accent braid.
