Hair removal is followed since ancient times. People, especially women always want to get rid of unwanted hairs. We have hair on all over our body. The method employed for hair removal depends upon many factors including the portion of body from where you want to remove hairs, amount of hairs present, sensitivity of skin to bear the hair removing process and whether you want to permanently remove hairs or temporarily. Hairs can be removed permanently or temporarily. Permanent hair removal methods are laser hair removal or electrolysis. Often women want to remove facial hairs permanently. There are many temporary methods for hair removal such as waxing, shaving, plucking etc. Nowadays, it is easier to get hair removed. There are many temporary hair removal methods which you can follow at home also.


Different Methods for Hair Removal:

 For hair removal you have options of bleaching of hairs, short-term hair removal, long-term hair removal and permanent hair removal.


Some common methods for removing hairs are Plucking, trimming of hairs, shaving, waxing, using of epilators, depilatory creams which are temporary methods. Permanent hair removal methods are electrolysis and laser hair removal. Bleaching is also a method to maintain unwanted hairs.


Natural Methods of hair removal:

 Many hair removal methods use harsh and harmful chemicals which may not suit everybody’s skin. There are few natural methods which do not use any chemical and protect the skin from its adverse effects. These natural methods include shaving, waxing and plucking. Some other natural remedies to help remove unwanted hairs are


  • Sugar waxing: This is an ancient method to remove hair just like waxing. Instead of wax, it uses a mixture prepared by mixing honey, lemon juice and sugar.
  • Hair bleaching solution by using lemon juice and chamomile tea.
  • A rough stone can be used to remove hairs by friction.
  • Plucking : It is the natural method of hair removal. Tweezers are used to pluck out hairs form its follicles. But plucking can be used to remove very few hairs as it removes only one hair at a time.
  • Threading : It is just like plucking as it pulls hairs but it makes use of a cotton thread to remove hairs. It can remove more than one hair at a time and is used to remove facial hairs.

Hair removal Methods Using creams and gadgets: Temporary Methods

Depilatory Creams : These creams applied on the skin and left for few minutes. In the meantime, these creams dissolve the hairs present on the skin surface. Before using any such cream, have a patch test to identify any allergic reaction.


Bleaching: This process does not remove hairs but it use chemical creams which help to lighten the color of hairs and make them unnoticeable. It is often used for the facial hairs.


Waxing: It is popular method of hair removal. A special kind of wax is applied on the skin and then a strip of cloth is adhered on the area where wax is applied. Hair gets stuck to the strip and then it is pulled with a jerk in opposite direction of growth of hairs. It is used to remove hairs from arms


Shaving: It is quite common method to remove hair from the surface of the skin. It trims the hairs close to the skin and hairs grow back quickly, within 2-3 days. This method uses a shaving cream which makes eth hairs soft and a razor.


Epilators are used to pull the hairs from root as it rolls against the skin. It is an electronic device.


Permanent Methods of Hair removal:

Electrolysis : In this process a fine needle in inserted in the hair follicle and a very small current is passed into it. It burns the hair follicle. It has to be done by a professional at clinic and may cause slight swelling and redness fro few days. It requires many sittings and is an expensive method.


Laser Hair Removal:


It is also performed at clinic by professionals. In this process, a laser beam is directed at the melanin contained in the hair follicle. It in turn burns the hair follicle.
