Women always want to remove unwanted hairs from their skin. Unwanted hairs may be present of face, legs, arms, back, abdomen, and chest and bikini line. Waxing is the method of hair removal. It removes hair semi-permanently. During the procedure of waxing, hairs are removed from the roots and take long to time to reappear. There are many kinds of waxing available according to the part of body involved. One can have permanent hair removal, if waxing is done regularly for several years. This is one of the most inexpensive methods of hair removal and regrowth of hairs take about 3 to 6 weeks.
To perform the method of waxing you need a special kind of wax. This wax is slightly heated to let it melt. Then it is applied over the area of skin from where hairs are to be treated. It is applied with a spatula and wax layer is very thin. Then a cloth or paper strip is pressed on to it to adhere to the wax firmly. Then this strip is pulled off quickly with a jerk in the direction against the hair growth. This strip removes the wax and hair embedded in the wax. It also removes dead skin cells with it and leaves the skin smooth. Cold wax strips are also available in the market which can be easily pressed over the skin.
Waxing can be done on any part of the body. Different types of waxing are categorized according to the part of body involved. Types of waxing can be eyebrow waxing, leg waxing, foot waxing, arm or underarm waxing, chest waxing and entire body waxing. Waxing can not be done inside of the ear, nose, eyelids, eyelashes, palms and soles of the feet. These are sensitive areas and if waxing is done there, they can get severely damaged. If you do waxing over hair free areas, it can trigger hair growth there.
Waxing hair removal is better than other methods of hair removal. It is very cheap and can be performed at home also. It is easy to do and can remove large amount of hairs at once. Regrowth of hairs at treated area takes 3 to 6 weeks; it is a long lasting method of hair removal. If done regularly over years, one can achieve permanent hair reduction.
Other methods of removal like shaving or using depilatory creams, remove hair from surface only but waxing removes hairs from their roots. This is the more effective method. Hairs growing back after use of creams are thick and coarse but hairs growing back after waxing are soft and lighter. Plucking and threading remove very small amount of hairs at a time but waxing can remove large amount of hairs at once.
Waxing has many disadvantages also. It is quite painful process and people with sensitive skin are not able to bear it. When the strip of cloth or paper is removed, it causes lots of pain. Pain is just for that moment but it is unbearable. It can leave redness and irritation on the skin which is temporary. Hairs are removed in opposite direction of their growth; it may, sometimes, disturb the hair follicle and direction of growth of hairs may change. But it is not possible if waxing is done properly by some expert.
Another most crucial disadvantage of waxing is that people may suffer from the problem of ingrown hairs, red bumps and slight bleeding. This is specially the case with men who have thicker hairs with strong follicles.
Waxing is not advisable for the people suffering from diabetes or who have poor circulation or varicose vein. Some medications like Retin-A, Renova or Isotretinoin tend to weaken the skin and it creates risk of tearing of skin while wax is being removed. Do not wax skin where it is affected by pimples, warts, moles, rashes or skin is chapped or affected by sunburn. Also do not apply wax over broken or peeling skin.
