Telogen Effluvium

Telogen Effluvium is a form of general hair loss. This term is given to the general “thinning of Hairs”. In this condition, people do not suffer from baldness and is rather temporary unlike other hair loss problems. Telogen effluvium results when more hairs fall than normal amount of hair loss. This hair loss occurs due to abnormality in the normal hair growth cycle.

Normal Hair Growth Cycle:

Hair growth cycle is divided in three phases which are growth phase, regression phase and the resting phase. At one time, about 90% of hairs are in growth phase and rest of 10% percent of hairs is in resting phase. Telogen affluvium can be chronic as it is often go unnoticed when in initial stages. Telogen affluvium occurs when large numbers of hairs go into resting phase prematurely under the effect of any mental or physical shock.

Symptoms of Telogen Effluvium:

When you notice more hair fall than the usual one which you get normally, it is the sign of this disorder. Women usually suffer from large hair loss 2-3 months after delivering a baby. This happen because most of the hairs go into telogen (resting phase) and then these hairs shed after 2-3 months.

Various Causes of Telogen Affluvium:
