This is the very first thing that you should do, i.e., change your sleeping posture. The posture in which you sleep has a large impact on your snoring. Generally people sleeping on their back, tend to snore more, than those sleeping on their sides or belly. This happens because, when you are sleeping on your back, the tongue muscles relax and get close to the jaw palate, obstructing the air flow from the wind pipe, leading to snoring.
You can take specially made pillows for the purpose, which are at least 4 inches high, to prevent this problem. You should also try to sleep more on your sides, so that the lower jaw could move forward, and obstruction could be removed, from your airways.

It is also advisable that you should gargle with warm water having salt dissolved in it, to clear out the microbes and tighten your throat muscles.
You can use some aromatic herbs for treatment of your snoring, like Lavender and marjoram, which can enhance sleep, and clear sinus respectively. You can breathe in the aromatic vapors of eucalyptus oil and peppermint oil, to prevent snoring. Peppermint oil clears the mucus blocking nasal passage, whereas, Eucalyptus oil contains cineole, or eucalyptol, which can prevent formation of excessive mucus and is anti-inflammatory in nature, which helps control snoring.
Thus, both these oils can be used to get relief from excessive snoring caused due to mucus formation.
Inhaling steam is also a very effective way of getting rid of snoring. This will clear your nasal passage and prevent snoring.
You can control snoring by keeping a tab on your daily food intake. Try avoiding high fat, and dairy products, that can cause accumulation of mucous, and obstruct air. You should also avoid heavy meals before bed, and go for light food instead. You should also try to sleep, at least after 3 hours, of having your food, as undigested food raises your diaphragm, and may lead to snoring .
Smoking and alcohol both, increase the problem of snoring. This is because, they relax the muscles in your throat, causing obstruction and thereby, snoring. It is advisable, that you should reduce their intake, as much as possible and develop some healthy food habits.
