How To Cope With Baby Blues
If you just delivered a baby and instead of being on cloud nine, you are bogged down by depression, moodiness and a strange feeling of low self esteem. This is nothing but a typical case of post partum depression commonly known as baby blues.
Studies reveal that more than 70 percent of new mothers go through this strange condition immediately or a couple of months after delivering the baby. This terrible feeling is mainly attributed to the sudden changes in the body, hormonal ups and downs, physical fatigue, tiredness and lack of sleep.
Women experiencing baby blues show strange symptoms of mood swings, bouts of tearful crying, anxiety, not being able to do anything, nervousness and short temper. There isn’t any medicine to cure baby blue, but a little lifestyle changes and some amount of patience and support from the family members can treat this condition. Here are a few tips to get rid of baby blues:

- Talk your blues away: People close to you will be your biggest support at this time. Talk out your heart with your life partner, parents, best buddies or whoever you can lean on in tough times. These people who understand you better will realize your state of mind and might be able to show the brighter some of the picture, which may help in driving your blues away. Bottling up your feelings inside will increase the depression and the gloomy feeling.
- Take a healthy diet: Even though you might be having tough days and even tougher times during nights, it is still important for you to eat well in order to remain healthy and fit, mentally as well as physically. A good and nourishing diet plays a major role during this time. Eating less and breastfeeding really takes a toll on your health. You might feel drained oout and fatigued all the time. This aggravates the feeling of depression. Take a well balanced diet of fruits, vegetables, healthy carbs, proteins and dairy products. Indulging in your favorite food, may also help you feel good about yourself.
- Supplements are important: Your prenatal supplements still play a major role in defining your health, even after you delivered. So, it is advisable to keep taking the iron, calcium, multivitamins regularly. Some of these are extremely good in fighting depression. Some other supplements that are essential at this time are Omega 3 fatty acids, especially if you are not a fish eater, zinc, Vitamin E etc.
- Delegate your work and seek help: If you are working towards being a superwoman, please stop doing so. Striving and struggling to do everything by yourself will take a toll on your health. Learn to delegate your work and responsibilities to others around you. Seek help from your partner, sibling or your mother. Lessen up your burden and you will definitely feel light and stress free.
- Take short power naps: One thing a new mom badly craves for is a good night’s sleep, which is a farfetched dream at least for the first few months. SO, try taking small power naps during the day time when the baby sleeps. It will make you feel refresh and rejuvenated again.
