• Before you begin dating, know exactly what you want from the relation. If you are looking for fun and companionship, your approach to dating should be more casual. However, if you feel that by dating someone you want to get to know the opposite person better and get into a committed relationship, you need to be selective and serious during dating. Also, let the opposite person know at the very beginning your goal of dating. If you are interested only in fun and if the other person gets serious about the relation, this could lead to bitterness and could hurt your partner’s emotions.
• If you find it difficult to find a date, join a club or a hobby class so that you can meet like minded people. The Internet is a vast forum which can help you find a suitable date. There are numerous dating websites where you can find people who have similar interests. However exercise caution and discretion when you date online. When asking for a date, appear confident and display positive body language. Make eye contact and smilingly introduce yourself. Then politely ask the person if he/she would be interested in going out with you.
• If the person does not seem interested do not insist. Instead change the topic of conversation and then walk away after a polite good bye. Do not date a person just for the sake of it. Ensure your partner is someone you feel attracted towards and who has similar interests. This will give you greater compatibility with your partner. This is especially true if you want to take the relation to the level of a serious commitment.
• On your first date, show good manners and make an interesting conversation. Do not brag about your success or achievements. Instead, talk about things you are interested in, your core values in life, things get you excited, etc. Infuse humor in your conversations as this will prevent the meeting from becoming too formal. However do not reveal too much about yourself in the very first meeting. Be yourself and do not try too hard to impress your partner as this will seem un-natural.
• After the date, do not contact your partner very frequently until he/she responds to you. Flooding your date with emails, text messages and phone calls can make you seem obsessive. Avoid such behavior completely.
