• Begin the decorating process by selecting a pretty shade of color for your bedroom walls. If you want a relaxing and serene look for the room, go for pale and pastel shades of white, cream, blue, pink, green, yellow, et cetera.
• For a bold and vibrant look, go with colors like red, bright blue and pale orange. Paint the ceiling in white or cream. If you like you can even go for a starry ceiling or a sky with clouds ceiling for an outdoorsy look. A sky with clouds ceiling would go very well with pale green walls decorated with tree motifs. Starry ceilings would go well with blue or white walls.
• Alternatively, you can use wallpaper to decorate the walls of your master bedroom. However, if you choose to use patterned wall paper you will have to make sure that the colors go well with the rest of your décor. Paint the windows and doors in white or a complementary color. Decorate the walls with some nice murals or paintings.
• You can also decorate the walls with ornate mirrors, posters, wall decals, hangings, stenciling and more, to create a unique look. Stenciling proverbs and quotations, or even your own name on the wall space above the bed headboard, is a cute way to add your personal touch to the décor.
• Use fancy light fixtures to add extra decorative appeal to your bedroom. Finely carved, wrought iron candle wall sconces and crystal chandeliers can be used to add an opulent feel to the room.
• The next step in decorating a master bedroom is selecting furniture. It is important to make sure that the color of the furniture does not clash with the rest of the décor. If purchasing new furniture is not an option, simply sand, varnish or paint your old furniture. Place decorative lamps, vases with synthetic or real flowers, statuettes, and other items on top of tables, dressers, et cetera, to make your master bedroom aesthetically pleasing.
• You can also use pretty slip covers, bedding with delicate floral prints, Lacy bed ruffs, decorative valances and lacy or floral print curtains, to give your master bedroom a retro or shabby chic look. For a more contemporary look, you can go with white, cream, black, beige, grey and brown colored bedding and curtains. Make sure all the décor matches or contrasts each other in a tasteful way.
