Delicious and filling, tacos are made by wrapping variety of filling made with beef, chicken, cheese or vegetables in wheat or corn tortillas. If you love tacos and enjoy making them in your own kitchen then you would certainly love taco seasoning made at home.
Not only does it add a delicious flavor to your taco fillings but homemade seasoning is cheaper and contains fewer preservatives as compared to the commercial variants. Moreover making taco seasoning at home is actually quite easy and takes less than five to ten minutes. Here is the step by step procedure for making taco seasoning at home.
- For making taco seasoning you will need three tablespoons of chili powder, two tablespoons of garlic powder, four tablespoons of dried onion powder, two tablespoons of crushed red pepper flakes, a tablespoon of oregano, around three tablespoons of salt, I tablespoon of pepper, half a teaspoon of paprika, one and a half tablespoon of cumin powder.
- In a large bowl, add all the ingredients for the taco seasoning and then mix them well with a spoon. You can also add the ingredients in an airtight jar and give it a good shake to mix all the ingredients. The ingredients of the seasoning can be changed to suit your taste and needs. So if you prefer less spicy then use lesser quantity of chili powder and paprika or add more if you love spicy tacos.
- Once you have mixed all the ingredients, pour the seasoning into a clean airtight jar and store it at room temperature. Ensure that you leave enough room in the jar. This will allow you to shake the ingredients properly before use. You can also store the taco seasoning in resealable plastic bags.
- To use the seasoning, add it to the filling while it is cooking. This will help in flavoring the filling to perfection. So if you are using ground beef then mix the seasoning with some ground beef that has been cooked in a skillet. Blend the seasoning well and then add a cup of water. Bring it to a boil and then allow the seasoned beef to simmer till the water has thickened.
