Upma is one of the favorite breakfasts of south Indians. Since it can be cooked very quickly, most of the people prefer it in their busy mornings.
Because of its fine taste and wholesome nature, Upma can be used as snack as well as meal. It is made with Semolina and some other simple ingredients.
If you need to eat something and have only less time to cook, you can make Upma very quickly. Following steps tells you how to make Upma in your home.

Instructions
- The main ingredients you need for Upma are Semolina, Vegetable/Coconut oil, Onion, Mustard seeds, Curry leaves, Turmeric powder, Ginger, and Green chili.
First, take a flat pan or a griddle and heat it on medium flame. Then put the semolina in the pan and roast it lightly. As semolina may get easily browned, Be care full while frying. You can avoid browning by stirring it frequently. After roasting it properly, put it aside. - Next, take the vegetable/coconut oil and heat in the pan. When oil gets heated, add mustard seeds in to it. Then add curry leaves and green chilies and heat the pan until the spluttering gets stopped. After that, add the chopped ginger to it and stir well.
- After one minute, add the chopped onion into it and stir it until it becomes soft. If you add tomato and mix it well with the onion, the Upma will be tastier. Next, take water and heat it adding salt and turmeric in to it. When the water gets boiled, add the roasted semolina into it little by little. When you add the semolina, you need to stir it frequently so that it may not get lumped.
- Cook the mixture until it become like a thick mush. Put out the fire when it is well cooked. Now you can add little lime juice and mix it well. Adding lime juice to Upma will increase the taste. Decorate Upma with chopped coriander leaves and serve it with pickle.
