If you can meditate, you can probably conquer the world. Meditation makes you silence your mind and all the turmoil associated to human life. It is a mental discipline which can be done anytime and by anyone to relax the mind. Here we list down the steps to meditation from a beginner’s point of view:
Difficulty level
Moderately challenging for beginners.
Instructions
- Time is the essence - If you have decided to learn meditation you should first make enough free time to meditate regularly. As a beginner you should be able to get some time for meditation every day. Otherwise it is better not to learn meditation. Avoid meditation when you are about to eat or get hungry and soon after your meals. As you become a pro in meditation you may just need five minutes and just any place in the world to do it.
- Place hunting – Now that you have allocated yourself enough time to meditate it is time to find a relaxed spot to practice it. As mentioned above when you become an expert in meditation, time and place hardly matters. But right now since you are a beginner find a quiet and relaxing place to practice meditation. You can use soft background music or natural sound to support your mind.
- Get the right posture - To begin meditation you need to sit with the right posture. For meditation you need to sit a little forward or on the edge so that your pelvis is slightly raised. Your bottom, your spine, neck and head should be infact in a straight line. You should sit exactly on your two bottom bones and everything should be balanced on top of it. Your arms and legs do not have to be positioned in any particular manner, as long as your torso is straight. You may keep it on your thighs or relax them by your side. In this posture you will soon find out that it is so very easy to breathe and use your lungs to their full capacity.
- Relax - Now try to relax and stop all the internal voices in your mind. In simpler words, stop talking to yourself. Concentrate on something like your breath or utter a quiet word such as ‘Om’ in a steady rhythm either in your mind or openly. And as time progresses listen to your breath and the word ‘Om’ together.
- Get detached from the world – Try to detach yourself from your mind and stand apart as another person silently observing your mind and its activities. When you do this gradually you will find that the mind stops doing everything and relaxes.
The above steps are only for beginners and once you are able to do these steps easily and quickly you can move on to the next level of complete meditation.
