There are several types of headaches. Determining your type makes a big difference on the treatment. Is it a true migraine or is it a cluster headache? Is it a stress headache or is it from an organic source like a tumor? Once that is determined by your clinician the mode of treatment can be explored. If it is a true migraine there are several prescription medications that your doctor can tell you about….not everyone can take them and they can have serious side effects but they do work….sumatriptin (Imitrex) and a newer version of that med. is usually very effective in migraine relief. You should be in a doctors office the first time you take this medication as it can, as I said, have very serious side effects. But before trying that you might want to try one of the over the counter remedies like Excedrin Migraine or one of the other generic brands. The ingredients would be Acetaminophen 250 mg—-Aspirin 250 mg and Caffiene 65 mg. After taking the medication it is best if you can lie down in a darkened room with and ice pack to the affected area for at least 1/2 hour. There are also homeopatic remedies that seem to work to head off headaches. A true migraine usually comes in the early morning hours between 3am and 6 am. Hope that you find something that works for you.
