What Causes Acne?

Acne is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the skin. It is the most common skin condition and millions of people suffer from it on a daily basis. It mostly affects teenagers, but adults, children and even infants can suffer from it as well.

There are a few things that can cause acne. The most common cause of acne is the build-up of sebum in the pores. Sebum is an oil produced in the sebaceous gland and when there is an excess amount of it, it will seep into the pores. When the pores become clogged, they will become inflamed and produce a pimple. The sebum will continue to seep into the pore and cause the redness and inflammation to become worse. The sebum can also produce bacteria that is likely to cause acne as well. When the bacteria from the sebum spreads throughout your skin, more pores will become clogged and more acne will form. Killing the bacteria and reducing the sebum will greatly improve your acne.

Dead skin cells are another acne cause. When there is a large amount of dead skin cells, they begin to build up in the skin pores and can sometimes make them clogged. This is especially common when the dead skin cells mix with the sebum or bacteria. A way to prevent the dead skin cells from clogging the pores is to get rid of the dead skin cells completely. Exfoliating is the best way to do this.

Hormones are another thing that can cause acne. When a persons hormone levels are high, the body produces more sebum. Therefore, the sebum production is increased and there is large amounts of excess sebum that will clog the pores and cause the acne to form. This is common at times where a person experiences hormonal imbalance. Puberty, teenage years, menopause and during menstruation are common times when hormonal imbalances occur. Using acne treatment, you can prevent the sebum from rapidly producing during this time. Also, women can take an oral contraceptive to keep hormone levels balanced.

Although there are many acne causes, they tend to all work together to form the frustrating skin disorder. There is no way to get rid of everything that causes acne, so you will need treatment to help reduce and prevent the acne from forming. Use the treatment that best suits your needs and you will soon become acne free.
