Eyeliner

Eyeliner and its Application

Use of eyeliner can completely change the look and shape of eyes. It is a very powerful and most popular eye makeup accessory. It helps you define the shape of eyes as you desire by outlining it. It can help smaller eyes look larger. It can be used in daily makeup routine. The method to apply it changes the whole look; it can be applied in a very simple way and also in way to give dramatic look.

How to Choose Eyeliner:

To choose eyeliner, you should know about its various forms and shades available. There are many kinds of eyeliners in the market. You should choose eyeliner keeping various factors in mind like color and shape of eyes, outfits, occasion and the weather conditions also.

Various forms of Eyeliner:

Liquid Eyeliner is the popular form of eyeliner. It helps to perfectly define the shape of eyes. It is applied by a pointed tipped brush. The important thing about liquid eyeliner is that you should learn the art of applying it correctly. With liquid eyeliner, you will get precise and dramatic look.

Gel Eyeliner is a bit thicker in consistency than the liquid one and a stiff angular brush is used to apply it. Gel eyeliner is also popular because it has choice of various shades and it is gentle for eyes. You can easily apply it without pulling the eyelid skin.

Kohl eyeliner is used in various countries like India for ancient times. It is applied inside the lower lid of eyes. It spreads easily on the both sides eyes.

Pencil eyeliner and felt tip eyeliner are the forms of eyeliners which can be easily and quickly applied. Even a novice can apply them without actually learning or practicing. You will get soft look, if you are using pencil eyeliner. One negative aspect of pencil eyeliners is that they do not spread easily and pull the skin. Instead of pencil eyeliners, one should use cream eyeliners having felt tip. These can be applied like drawing with a pen. They overcome the problem of pulling the eye skin and also can be easily applied, that too without the fear of smudging it.

There is another form of eyeliner, cake eyeliner. This is in the dried cake form. Wet brush is rolled into it to cover it with eyeliner color. Powder eyeliners are like eyeshadow powders and wet brush is covered with powder and applied over the eyelid in desired shape.

Right way to Apply Eyeliner:

Method of applying eyeliner depends upon the form of eyeliner used. If you have chosen liquid eyeliner, you need practice. But if you are a beginner and want to quickly apply the eyeliner, go for felt tip or pencil eyeliner which is easy to control.

Prepare for applying eyeliner. You can use pencil eyeliner for soft look and liquid for dramatic and precise look. You can also wet dark eye shadow apply as eyeliner. If you have pencil eyeliner, sharp it with care. You can make its tip soft by warming by hair dryer. This will help it glide smoothly. Check for clumps in liquid eyeliner. And also take care of right brush to apply eyeliner. In case of cake eyeliner or dark eye shadow, move wet brush through cake or eye shadow softly.

Hold the brush as if you are holding a pen. Put the elbow of your hand, in which you are holding the brush, on a hard surface and its wrist on face.

Now slightly tilt head back and keep eyes slightly open making right position to apply the eyeliner.

Now look into the mirror and concentrate intently on your eyelid in a gentle way. It will prevent eyelid from shaking.

Now draw a straight line across the lash line of the upper lid. Eyeliner should touch the lashes but not over the lashes. It will create illusion of longer and thick lashes.

After applying eyeliner, close your eyes and open when it is completely dry otherwise it will mess up your crease on eyelid.

Now use a cotton swab or a brush to smudge the line to give it a soft look. If you like a sharp line then do not touch it and for making changes, use a cotton swab, dipped in eye makeup remover.

As for shape of line, it should be according to the shape of eye.

If you want to apply it under lower lash, keep eyes open and draw a fine line. Applying eyeliner below the lower eyelid will make your eyes look smaller. Another important caution, it may darken your under eye circles temporarily.

Apply eyeliner before applying mascara and after applying eyeshadow.
