Open comedones, popularly known as blackheads, are nothing but follicles with wider openings than the usual ones. Caused by over-active sebaceous glands, these blackheads normally appear on the face, back, chest etc where the sebaceous glands are located. The black color is normally derived from clogged hair follicles. These tiny bumps block the skin pores and the hair follicles with sebum and dead skin cells. Blackhead is also a type of Acne Vulgaris.

The hardened combination, formed by sebum and dead cells of skin, when exposed to atmosphere, gets oxidized and appears black in color. As far as treatment for blackheads is concerned, the natural remedies for this disorder are more advantageous than conventional methods. Blackheads are different from acne. The latter contains pus in it, whereas the former doesn’t. However, due to bacterial actions, blackheads may give rise to pus formation.
