Burning tongue is the chronic pain in the tongue. Burning tongue is also called by other names such as burning mouth syndrome, stomatodynia and glossodynia. The pain is a burning sensation that is concentrated on the tongue but it can also spread to the cheeks, gums, lips and the entire mouth. The pain from the burning tongue can get very intense at times and may feel like the tongue has been scalded with a very hot liquid. It is applied externally as a remedy for burns and even sunburn. It also relieves pain because of its analgesic properties. Diet for Burning tongue


Foods rich in Vitamin B are recommended for those suffering from burning tongue. Examples of these are bananas, liver oil, molasses, lean turkey meat, tuna, lentils and potatoes.

Eat dishes that are cooked plainly with as little salt as possible. Boiled or steamed vegetables are recommended for burning tongue.

Eat plenty of food that is rich in iron like broccoli, parsley and spinach. The iron found in these foods increases the production of red blood cells. The new cells will replace the damaged cells which will make the burning tongue heal faster.

Drink plenty of fresh fruit and vegetable juices. They are rich in the vitamins and minerals which are needed by the body to heal.
