Dandruff refers to the flaking scalp, which falls like snow flakes and sometimes settles on one’s shoulders, face, eyebrows and clothes. In the case of excessive formation of scales on the scalp there is irritating condition that is associated with bacteria. Dandruff is generally believed to be infections that can spread by the use of common towels, combs, soaps and hairbrushes. There are two types of dandruff:

An itchy scalp characterizes dry dandruff and small white scales are usually attached to the scalp or are loosely scattered in the hair. The waxy dandruff occurs when the scaliness of the epidermis is mixed with sebum, which causes it to stick to the scalp in patches.

Smother your head with sorbaline cream and leave in for three hours and wash out with anti dandruff shampoos... and u should only use conditioner on the ends of your hair as they are the dead ends. its actually bad for your scalp if you put conditioner on your scalp
#20 - Kirt - 01/13/2009 - 22:44
Avoid straightning your hair and ESPECIALLY avoid hair spray it soaks out any natural moisture in your hair. and if you get hair spray on your scalp its very bad.. it makes our hair hard and stiff and dry so imagine what it does to our scalp id say HAIRSPRAY is defnatley a NO NO!

I had been struggling for a month or two before I tried this and it really worked: First, get your hair wet in shower/bath, get a handfull of baking soda, get it a little wet so that it makes a sort of paste, and then massage into your scalp, and after about a minute or so rinse. Then I used some selsun blue shampoo (even though Im sure you could use any kind of shampoo that is ment to take away dandruff), and massageed it onto my scalp, let it sit for a couple minutes and rinsed. Then I used a little conditioner to soften my hair, like usual, and rinsed it out after about 5 mins....I really worked for me!:-D Hope it works for you!;-)

Hai... TRY THIS and see IT REALY WORKS In the NIGHT SOAK 2spoons of FENUGREK SEEDS in WATER and in the MORNING add few HIBISCUS LEAVES AND CURRY LEAVES to it and GRIND it into PASTE. Along with that paste ADD LIME JUICE, VINEGAR, CURD, TEA ESSENCE, EGG YOLK. Then mix it well. Keep the mixture seperately. Now in a small bowl add coconut oil, neem oil, castor oil, almond oil and heat it by placing the bowl in hot water(do not heat oil directly in the flame)and then add camphor to it. now apply the oil to the scalp and gently massage and then after sometime apply fenugrek mixture into the scalp. Wash your hair with dandruff shampoo. This can be done once in a week. I have tried this and it gives me relief from dandruff..

crack two eggs, and use the yolk from them. stir it together, add 2 tbsp of olive oil and 1tbsp of lemon juice, mix. massage into the scalp, and leave for an hour. rinse then repeat using a good shampoo. do this once/twice a week depending on how bad your dandruff is. the key is to moisturise the scalp, and kill any fungus on it, alsoo remove the old dead icky bits! hope this helps xx
#61 - claire - 11/10/2009 - 11:36
I deal with dandruff lately, but I've been discovering really good ways of getting rid of it. It's worked for me so far, and here's the trick for a healthy scalp: DO NOT, I repeat, do not use anything that has detergents or alcohol in them. I've seen people who say they use Listerine all the way to dish soap to Sea Breeze (an alcohol astringent for the face), and this is frightening.
You guys, the sebum, our natural oils, are GOOD. The trick is to get your hair to balance these oils, and dandruff will stop appearing after a while. However, our scalps overload on oil and dandruff when we strip it all away with ingredients that honestly are not good for our bodiees in general. Baking soda is natural, and even though it may feel like it's taking away a lot of oil from the hair, it actually only takes away excess oils. This remedy is very good; take a tablespoon of baking soda, and mix it in a large cup of water. Pour it over the hair and rub it all the way down to the scalp. Leave it in for a minute to three minutes, then rinse. Another remedy is apple cider vinegar; white vinegar just makes hair greasy, but apple cider is better AND can be used as a body astringent. Mix a couple of tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a large cup of water and use it as a rinse after shampooing or after washing hair with the baking soda rinse. Rub in and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse out really good or else you'll smell like fish and chips. :) You can also soak a cotton ball in apple cider vinegar and massage it into problem areas where it seems the most flaky and itchy before washing your hair. Do these baking soda and vinegar rinse every other day or every other two or three days, or else it'll be overload for your hair and scalp. One last great remedy is using eggs. Scramble one to two eggs, mix with a bit of water to thin out the mixture and pour it onto your hair. Rub in and let it sit for a few minutes, then rinse out. As well, only do this every couple or few days. I only do this once a week, because it's gives me a strong result. So people, just remember the idea isn't to use overpowering alcohols, detergents like generic shampoos or even dish soap (why anyone would think that's a good idea is beyond me). Work with your body; find a balance with natural remedies. It'll take patience and time, but it's worth it, trust me on that.

Borax is a bad idea for dandruff relief. Because dandruff is associated with a pH that is not enough acidic. borax would cause this an as you can see most of the remedies include something such as lemon juice for just this purpose.

Great remedies for dandruff are:
Wash the scalp with a cup of laundry detergent
let remain on scalp for 5 minutes then rinse off.

Wet or soak the scalp with apple cider vinegar
for 5 minutes then rinse off.

Utilize a bottle of Bayer Aspirin then crush up
let soak in 1/4 cup of water then soak the scalp
with solution for 5 minutes then rinse off.

With any of the above remedies and their is
a reoccurrence of dandruff after 1 attempt you
might not even have dandruff at all could be
a number of things such as:

Ringworm (Contagious)

Have your dermantologist scrape your scalp to
conduct a culture in an exam tube.

I had my dermantologist conduct as listed
above then turned out I had a mild staphicacus
infection of my scalp I was prescribed Ciprofloxacn
(an oral anti biotic) along with Fluocinolone
a liquid and Clindamycin Phosphate a liquid
both to be applied topically to the scalp as
recommended by physician.

Another thing many of the anti dandruff shampoos are made to be just a temporary
solution for a few days to keep the consumer
dependent while the maker and retailers continue to make generate revenue or sales.

Ok, try this and it truly works. Apple Cider Vinegar. Buy the organic kind. They sell this in your local grocery store in the natural food aisle. Use ACV every time you wash your hair. I put ACV before I shampoo in the shower. I leave it on for like an hour. Just apply to the scalp and walk around with a towel over your hair. Or you can apply to the scalp in the shower and wait like 10 minutes before rinsing. This truly works and you will notice a huge difference within the week. You have to do this all the time and in about a month you can use at least once a week. The smell will come out with your shampoo. Also this helps the hair to become nice and shiny and in better condition. ***You will feel a stinging sensation but it will pass. I love that feeling because I know the acid is working on my scalp. Try it. The only way to rid yourself of dandruff is to apply a acid product. Any type like lemon juice also could help.

Try smoking 1 half gram of crack cocaine (1 rock)twice daily for a week. It may take a month or so to fully work, but by this time your dandruff will be the least of your problems!

#99 - maki - 01/24/2011 - 00:48
For seborreic dermatitis:
- johnson's baby shampoo, the regular type, use it on face and head, and body if neccesary.
- Infusion of rosmary, sweet cloves and ginger; two tablespoons of each in 4 cups of water. Boil covered in medium heat for 20 minutes. (helps for dandruff, grows hair and avoid falling)

...and use a moisturizer on scalp like cocoa butter or coconut oil, the more natural, the best.

I've been massaging my hair with plain water for about 5 mins then using about 2 tbs baking soda in 1 1/2cups of water and massaging again for 5 mins then rinsing, then I apply a mixture of 1 tbs apple cider vinegar and 1 cup water to my hair and scalp and massage 5 mins then rinse, my scalp is clean and my hair is soft and shiny. I do that every 5 to 7 days. It has brought me great relief.

I get dandruff after every 3 hours of bathing. Well, it makes me the King of Dandruff in the world. Death is better than living with this mess. Suicide is the only solution
#120 - King of dandruff - 06/09/2012 - 23:46
Ive tried many ways to get rid of my dandruff in the past. This includes multiple dandruff shampoos, going with totally organic shampoos, going no-poo using only the baking soda & vinegar, different oil treatments including the famed coconut oil--- all to no avail. What has worked is Amla. I bought it on an online sight on a whim about trying out some natural Indian herbs. After the first time I used it, I had a 50% decrease in dandruff. I have lived with dandruff for so long it was amazing to see healthy scalp.

My regimene: 2 Tb amla powder. Mix enough water to make a paste. Apply to hair, focusing on the roots. Leave in for an hour then wash out.

A few warnings: some ppl don't like the smell, it does have a slight darkening effect on some hair, and it can be messy so make sure there is an old towel close by. Using a combination of Indian herbs is said to reap greater benefit that the single one I've been using. Combining herbs would most likely be ideal, & I am going to attempt some combinations in the near future.

Ever consider the chlorine/ chloramine, fluoride(extremely corrosive), and all the other corrosion and rust inhibiting chemicals your showering in? Get a chlorine showerhead filter. Costs $10 a year to maintain and it will help improve your skin health by filtering out some of the poison that you are bathing in.
#130 - neem - 02/27/2015 - 12:28
use some yogurt, mix in with lemon juice, dry henna, 1 egg, mustard oil, just enough for one use, then leave it on for at least 30 mins, then wash with shampoo mixed with 1 tsp of soda. this will get rid of your dandruff and bring shine and health back to your hair...repeat at least 2 a month
