For dry and chapped lips the best home remedy for dry skin is to massage lips with a little cream of milk by adding few drops each of rose water and lime juice every night before going to bed.
Massaging the skin with grapeseed oil is the best and effective method for dry skin.

I read the above info and just want a bit of clarification: I have a problem similar to what is stated above about a dry patch of skin on the chin. It appeared about 6 weeks ago and hasn't gone away since. I have used olive oil to no avail and switched to coconut oil, but after a week of that I have seen no change. Can you clarify what you mean about 6 tablespoons of coconut oil and apple cider vinager? Are these to consume or apply topically? Any other words of advice?

put really hot water in a bowl and put your face over it under a towel and let the evaporated water cover your face and do that for 10 or so minutes, that puts a lot of moisture back into your face...it could get rid of that dry patch of skin on your chin

PEANUT BUTTER! that's all you need, just put plain peanut butter on your dry skin and leave it on for an hour or so - it will sink in. it's amazing, this REALLY works! i found this out by accident. i had extremely dry skin around my mouth/nose/hands. one day i was working on removing sticky residue from furniture using peanut butter, and i got peanut butter all over my hands - and noticed that the next day, they were smooth and soft. so i tried the peanut butter on my face/hands/elbows, and one application of peanut butter left all the areas moist FOR WEEKS. it's very hard to believe that the peanut butter works because it's so simple and cheap - but it REALLY WORKS! try it!!
#18 - Yvonne - 02/02/2009 - 02:13
iv got extremely dry skin from head to toe. When its really bad i crack all over and then have to wait wks 4 the dead skin to come off. I get like a scaley effect all over, especially really bad on legs. This seems worse when im due my period? does anyone know why this is? and what is a good way of removing this dead skin quickly. How can i improve this as its really getting me down.!!!!!
#19 - carlic - 02/02/2009 - 06:20
By soaking your face for 10 minutes in lukewarm water do you mean to say soak a cloth in the water and then leave it on your face for 10 minutes?
#20 - Teddy - 02/04/2009 - 08:49
for long and beutiful eyelashes apply castor oill wid ur finger tips before goin to bed
#21 - nadia - 02/07/2009 - 17:46
Peanut Butter really does work! I wouldn't advise you to use it on spots that tend to already get oily such as your forehead. I now keep a jar in the bathroom and one for the kitchen as well! Just leave it on for an hour or so and let the oils from the peanut butter sink in! It's great try it for your other dry skin areas like your hands!

#23 - Shortie - 02/19/2009 - 23:03

#24 - Jennaaaa - 03/02/2009 - 07:34
I am struggling with very dry skin on my face and hands... I will try the peanut butter... sounds good... Someone suggested an air humidifier if you have central heating.... I have bought one and will wait and see...
#25 - Delilah - 03/04/2009 - 07:31
for dry skin, take some yogurt like a tablespoon or two and put it on the dry areas. it will clear the skin, refreshes it and normalizes it.
#26 - Muskan - 03/10/2009 - 22:00
Peanut butter is stuff you spread on your toast for breakfast. Get it at any western supermarket.
#27 - Dee - 03/31/2009 - 12:31
for my lips, i use petroleum jelly or aquaphor (they're the same thing only aquaphor is thicker) at night and leave it on overnight if it's really dry and chapped. don't lick your lips if it's chapped though, it'll make it worse. but under normal circumstances, i use an ample amount of beeswax. it tastes pretty weird though. it worked for me and i have pretty soft, nice lips if i do say so myself:-D
#28 - annie - 04/03/2009 - 18:08

I am having a problem for about 2 weeks now. My face skin looks like when you have a mild allergic reaction to something and you get like a little face rash, plus i am having dry skin and flakes around it, but if you touch it, it has natural oil. I use lotion and face scrubs, but they don't seem to work.. What do you think i should do?:-(
#34 - Kathie - 05/04/2009 - 00:01
:-)This is a good website. i've had really dry flaky skin on my chin for a few days that's getting really annoying, especially since it hasn't happened in about five years. I think i'll try the honey/penut/milk one. I spread honey on the spot last night and it helped Ok. It's not as dry or flaky today.
It's weird tho. When my skin first broke out like this, i was using Dove soap, and i was actually using it recently a bit before i broke out again. I guess the effects are different to everyone. Thanks again for the great site.
#35 - Vege Angel - 05/08/2009 - 03:08
I have extremely sensitive skin. Products like 'simple' is still too harsh for my face, i usually get red, patchy, flaky spots under my eyes when i use harsh face washes. At the moment im using a wash cloth with warm water, and moisturising with olay sensitive. I would pay triple the amount for olay moisturiser. I will definitely try the peanut butter though. Just to restore moisture. Thanks for the tips. :-D
#36 - Aroha - 05/26/2009 - 22:39

I have very sensitive skin. When I was growing up the dermatoligist told my mom to use only Dove and a certain wash powder. I am now 29 and haven't use Dove in a while but have decided to go back to using it. I have very dry skin and also prone to breakouts. I have tried product like proactive but for sensitive skin and it helped with the breakpouts but has dried my face out really bad. I am trying the peanut butter on my face, hands and feet now. Hopefully it will work. Will let you know how it does! I love this site though because of the home remedies and that it is natural stuff because my skin is so sensitve.
#55 - Stacey - 09/06/2009 - 22:16

I have extremely severe eczema on my forehead, it looks so red all the time. Its really rough and feels just like sand paper. The skin is always really red and looks wrinkly. I'm only 13 and i feel so embarrassed to go out in public and have to face school everyday. My head is just always really itchy and i pretty much have only half an eyebrow left. I'm allergic to honey as i just tried it the other day and came up with a red puffy face. Can somebody please suggest a really good remedy? I'm going to try the peanut butter tonight. Much thanks :-)

oh yeah, and, what can i take/drink/eat to help my dry skin internally? I have to use lotion at least once a day and it is a pain. I know vitamins A, B, and E, and lots of H2O, but anything else anyone can recommend to help my severely dry cracking skin?
#71 - dara - 11/14/2009 - 11:16
I also have dry skin all over my body. Need help...I itch all the time all over. Even my head. What type of peanut butter. What can I use on my head? What can I take internally too? I am desperate.
#72 - Terry - 11/20/2009 - 11:14
Thank you Natty B for the olive oil/ sugar/ honey exfoliator, it really works well. I had a store bought exfoliator that I ran out of; I would always rather know exactly what ingredients I am using for my body. and this one is great! I used it for my face - so I can say that if you only want a 1 time use recipe, you can cut Natty B's ratios down by half or more. And I used a light toner to remove any residual oil from my face.
#73 - Leah - 11/22/2009 - 08:59
Vasoline mask for dry winter faces yall. It's amazing. Just plan old vasoline. Leave it on for a couple of hours ( I put it one about once a week while I'm watching tv in the evening. Then use a washcloth to remove the excess before you go to sleep so that it's not oily and greasy. My great grandmother introduced me to this trick. If my skin gets REALLY dry, I'll do this once a day for about 3 days in a row. At the end of the 3 days your skin his healthy and full of moisture and glowing. Again, just for people with severely dry skin on your face, not necessarily for people with skin irritations or rashes or anything. It does wonders!!
#74 - Jennifer - 11/24/2009 - 18:39
The peanut butter works really well! Just tried it out on my very very very very dry lips and they're practically cured (very hard not to lick off the peanut butter though!) I think I might also try out the olive oil, sugar and honey exfoliator seems to be another nice natural option.
My skin is also very sensitive like most people who have written above. It even reacts to products like 'simple' , but I have always found that baby oil in the bath once a week in winter keeps my skin soft and as Jennifer mentioned putting plain vasoline on your face for an hour or so then washing it off gently before bed always leaves my skin plump and also gives it a nice healthy glow which is nice - not too much vasoline otherwise you'll end up greasy :-o
Thanks to everyone for the ideas they're really great!!
#75 - Emma - 12/01/2009 - 05:20
I tried to pop a pimple- and created this gross scab (beside my lip) and i dont know whether to exfoliate the dead skin off or moisturize to help it heal!?? Help please i cant stand this!!
#76 - AC - 12/02/2009 - 02:05
Hi ladies, try vaseline at night on your hands-but you must wear cotton gloves when you do this. repeat until hands are soft and smooth. Then do this once a week.If you use face scrubs- only use it once a week. I am talking about "exfoliating" face scrubs. Heard this from a dermatologist on TV.
AGAIN, for dry spots anywhere-try vaseline-just leave on for an hour or 2 then gently remove and cleanse, or shower if you put all over your body. No gloves for this...lol. Its very cheap.

Five weeks ago, I woke up with mild dry skin under my eyebrows and I ignored it. Slowly it spread and now both my eyes feel ichy, flaky, chrusty in the morning and evening and my doctor says it's bleferitis. It all started with small dry patch. I don't know how and what caused this but I am really frustrated with the eye condition. Google search shows that bleferitis is chronic - I am wondering if anyone knows a way to cure it? any home remedies that can help restore my beautiful eyes?

I Left The Peanut Butter On My Face For Almost 2 Hours, Washed It Off And It Didn't Work!!! >-( Really Was So Excited, Thought This Was Going To Do It But Now I'm Sad Cause PEANUT BUTTER DON'T WORK, So It's Back To Baby Lotion Which I Hate Cause Of The Oily Feeling. Don't Know If It's Because Of Our Tropical Climate, Cause It's Like Summer All Year Round In Hawaii, Just Colder At Night In The Winter. Thank You So Much For The Advice And I'm Going To Try The Vaseline Later On, Unless Anyone Else Have Another Suggestion? Have A Very Merry Christmas Everyone And Enjoy Yourself!! "ALOHA" ;-)

Hi! :) I have a very dry patch of skin above my upper lip. When I put vasoline on it, it stops stinging but doesn't make it go away. It us flakey and when it's moisterized enough to stop peeling, it's all red and wrinkly. It is very gross looking, it's been here for a couple months now and isn't going away. Any tips at all would help. Thanks so much! :)

Hey everyone! My skin is normally rather oily, but I used a product (Zap-Zit) on my cheeks (near my nose) because I had some problematic pimples, but I woke up the next morning and had a rash on my cheeks! Over the past two days the rash has turned into extremely dry skin, and I was wondering if anyone has some suggestions? I want something natural because I used a pretty good moisturizer and it only burned, didn't clear it up at all. HELP!

I agree on the water! I have very dry skin and will try the peanut butter and the sugar/olive oil/honey exfoliator as well...thanks for the tips! I had a very bad, red, scaly, itchy rash around my eyes for over a year!!! I went to many doctors and spent hundreds of dollars on medications...none of them worked! My solution? #85 - Clement - 01/06/2010 - 06:45
ok guys, the main causes for dry skin are:
if your skin is dry, DONT EXFOLIATE!!! its a temporary solution to remove the flakes and the top layer of skin, which will actually make it worse
drink enough water
if you moisturize your skin too often, your skin will not produce the natural oils like it should
4. product buildup-
if you dont wash your makeup off at night, or are using too much product on your skin, you will clog your pores and again, your skin will not produce oiks
5. overuse of/ harsh Anti-acne products-
unless you have severe acne, which you should see a doctor for, acne should be treated gentley.
6. alchohol- it should be avoided in facial care products totally, but if you must use something with it, if it is one of the first few ingredients, it has too much. it will dry your skin out badly, and then in turn your skin will over compensate with producing excessive oil
your facial routine should consist of:
washing face twice, am and pm
spot pimple treatment
moisturizing eye gel
light moisturizer am, heavier pm
appropriate mask once or twice a week, exfoliate with a gentle scrub (the scrubbing particles should be round ball like spheres, NOT GRAINS!) no more than once a week and professional facial if you can afford it no more than once every month or two
so many people abuse their skin and think they are helping it, i was one for many years, but as a former model and cosmetologist, i have had a great deal of experience with skin, please trust me, dont over exfoliate, dont use alchohol on your skin, dont use products that are too harsh
for extreme moisturizing treatments, (test all of these on a small patch for reaction first) you can use rosewater (soothing) or marigold water, olive oil (as a treatment, should be used before face is washed), cucumber (soothing, but has astringent properties so may sting) avocado (moisturizing but has enzymes that may sting) oatmeal (for itchy skin, it balances the ph), and milk (which the lactic acid gently exfoliates the dead skin cells)

I used to have really dry skin on my face, but all I did was after taking a shower at night and washing my face with a normal wash, I put body lotion on a wad of folded up toilet paper, and smeared it on my face. I rubbed it in a bit and left it for the morning. Now I wake up and my skin is fine. I worked immediately for me. Just don't wash your face in the morning.

i keep hearing about peanut butter. can u use crunchy peanut butter.
#88 - stephanie - 01/16/2010 - 08:50
Dry skin can be caused by many factors, not drinking enough water, too much caffeine or alcohol, make up, beauty products, soap, medical conditions, medication that we take even the temp. of the water we bathe in can all contribute to dry skin.
One good way to exfoliate the skin and use baking soda it is all natural and it will get rid of all the dead skin allowing new more healthy skin to come through. Also you may want to change from the regular bar or liquid soap that you have been using to a glycerin soap it is all pure and works great at controlling dry skin. I use a lotion from Avon called Vitamin A+E+C lotion it is very good and does not leave a greasy feel after wards but works wonders on dry skin. Try taking a bath at least a couple times a week over a shower this too will help reduce dry skin. There are many causes and cures you mainly have to find one that works best for you but I have found that by simply switching to a glycerin based soap will do wonders because it is pure and all natural not chemical based.
#89 - Sabrina - 01/18/2010 - 18:16
Tried the peanut butter on my very dry bottom lip and left it on for about an hour and it worked great! I rubbed off the excess with a warm cloth (put too much on I guess) and put on vasoline after. My lip felt like normal again!!
#90 - sue - 01/19/2010 - 10:14
I have been using honey as a face wash for a while now, my complextion is drastically more attractive-as a exfoliant i use brown sugar and honey-it is great to use before you put on ORGANIC make up. Using commercial make up will cuase wrinkles and skin damage the more you use it-organic makeup will actually heal your skin the more you use it. Safflower oil is a wonderful oil that will make you look young and vibrant-apply 1/4 cup to a hot bath with some epsom salt-if you are broke out the salt will heal that while the oil softens and protects. Using anything that is natural and edible is good for your skin. If you would not eat the product you are putting on your skin then you SHOULD NOT use it-it will get into your bloodstream and may even cause cancer and other health problems. Be wise and creative! plus using natural washes makes you feel better about and keeps you connected to mother earth.

Can you put peanut butter on your skin if it's acne prone?
#92 - tom - 01/20/2010 - 21:57
I believe you need to nourish your skin from the inside with good fats (fish oil capsules)olive oil, etc. Drink lots of water and cut back on caffeine.
#93 - Holly - 02/07/2010 - 12:13
dont like to smell like peanut butter, vingar baths are the best.
#94 - linda - 02/13/2010 - 09:57
I have tried all the lotions! Everything from cheap to expensive. But after a while my skin had some allergic reactions to them. I even tried hypoallergenic lotions but i still received bumpy redish skin after a while. So I really hope some of these remedies work! I am trying the peanut butter but don't have enough time to leave it on for an hour so I will see what it does in half an hour!:-P

You can get rid off the dry skin easily in the matter of minutes. I tried something that is natural, painless, and involves no chemicals. I was amazed how all of the flakes came off. I had my silky soft, teenager skin again. It is an ancient method. Google Ancient Exfoliation you'll find it.

I dunno whether will this method works on those suffered with dry skin like myself, but, I've tried and I am satisfied with the result.
Skin off the cucumber, put into blender and make it like puree(pulp and juice together). Pour out an amount you think is enough for your whole face area and place a thin layer of cottonwool on your clean face and top with cucumber puree for about 15-20 mins.
Put the unuse portion into fridge and continue to repeat this daily.

Hi! This website seems to have some very good info on skin care. I have a dry patch of skin right above the right side of my lip. I feel like it's probably from excessive threading. I've had it for about 5-6 months now (just that one spot). It looks horrible and makeup doesn't hide it at all. Can anyone please give me some advice on how to get rid of it. The rest of my skin is great but that dry patch just kills it. Please help!

My skin is very sensitive, dry & oily in the same spots, and breaks out with whitheads, black heads, and cystic acne. Everything I tried would break me out more and leave acne scars. Now, 40 with wrinkles, I have been trying different things and found this works best: I use cold water on a soft facial brush, rub it onto a natural soap bar, then cleanse face gently all over including eyes. There's no pulling of the skin, it only removes dead cells so you're not over exfoliating. I switch the soaps each time I wash just to make sure I don't develop an allergy to any of them. Then I gently pat my face dry, leaving some moisture. I apply the collagen cream which locks in the moisture.
I find that if I only use the collagen creams, then I break out and the wrinkles are only reduced a little. If I only wash as above, it does help with the acne and it also helps reduce some appearance of the wrinkles. By using the collagen creams and the above wash method combined, I get the best reduction of wrinkles and have a lot less breakouts than I ever had in my life.

i found the best thing for dry skin on the face is to use a cleansing lotion like QV pat skin and then bust a vit E capsule and pat over damp skin.then use night cream like olay regenerist. Its important to remember that what works for you may not work for others as ethnic backgrounds have different skin,as someone who is fair you skin tends to be dryer and will age more due to lack of melanin in the skin.

People do not know how to type because I can't understand half the stuff that is being said.
But I'm trying out the peanut butter thing on my lips right now :)
Cetaphil daily advance ultra hydrating lotion is pretty good; it's not greasy, and it's for dry, sensitive skin, so it's gentil enough to put on your face.
#152 - . - 12/15/2010 - 17:36
Like some people, I have extremely dry skin too. It is from head to toe. I have been to several different dermatologists, and been prescribed so many different lotions, but none work. And my skin soaks up regular store bought lotion in like 5 mins. I have been trying to find something that really works, because it is winter, and my skin gets even worse. I get rashes, extreme itching, and my skin cracks open creating very painful cuts all over my body, that bleed and burn, when I shower or try to put more lotion on. I just have no idea what to do anymore. Please someone tell me the best thing you can do for your skin.
#153 - Miss - 12/19/2010 - 22:58
During the winter months her in CT my face gets dry, itchy, flaky, red, and patchy. I use the (Cooked Oatmeal & Honey mixture) 2x day to wash my face. I then apply (Zinc Oxide Ointment & Bag Balm). Before I go to bed I apply it very thick.
BAG BALM is a miracle worker on dry skin and lips. It was developed in 1899 to soothe irritation on cows' udders after milking.
ZINC OXIDE OINTMENT/CREAM is a natural mineral that is used to lubricate and protect the skin. You can use it as often as needed.
Zinc Oxide is known to be a natural sunscreen, to help treat acne, & has an anti-inflammatory effect on the skin. It is also popular for rashes, chaffed skin, diaper rash, & minor scrapes and burns.
Look for the Zinc Oxide Cream or Ointment without any fragrance or additives.
#154 - Lisa - 12/23/2010 - 10:59
You shouldn't use baby oil or any products with mineral oil. The best one I read on here was the olive oil, sugar and honey. Also washing with apple cider vinegar (altho nobody wants to smell like vinegar). You can also make a salt scrub with epsom salt, olive oil, you can put essential oils in like lavendar oil, but be careful about using that on your face and then being in the sun. The thing with mineral oil it clogs pores which causes breakouts etc.

Simple Amazing Peeling Remedy for dry skin
1 Tablespoon olive oil
1 Tablespoon Milk
1 Teaspoon Salt
1 Teaspoon Sugar
1 Teaspoon lemon juice
Mix ingredients together and gently massage into face. Rinse with lukewarm water. If you have bad acne please do not do this. The lemon juice will help with mild pimples but might activate heavy acne. Enjoy! :=))

hey i have dry skin also use VASELINE it works wonders just before you go to bed, coat/smear your hands with the stuff. Let it soak in for a couple hours (which is why you put it on before bed) and when you wake up, volla! Rich, smooth, healthy, moist skin!!! THIS IS NO JOKE! Well, at least, it works for me. Vaseline-100% pure petroleum jelly is the best. You can put it on anytime, not just before bed. I works great for the lips too. You can even put this stuff on clean, bleeding/dry skin! (ex cracked knuckles). get the baby version Hope this works for you as it does for me!!!!:-) good luck!:-P:-P:-P:-P

Vaseline is very bad for you, as is baby oil, and mineral oil. I use raw organic coconut oil on my skin.
The best thing for your skin. Google it.

Okay... so as a young child i had eczema which is a skin irritation in which you have very very sensitive skin and red bumps on your body. i need a solution to occasional breakouts that will not cause further breakouts or irritaion like most products. any ideas would be awsome!

If my face gets dry, I just spread a layer of honey on it after I cleanse my face (make sure you put your hair up if it has a chance of getting in your face) and let it sit for about 30 minutes. After that, I rinse my face with warm/lukewarm water, then splash it with cold water and dab my face dry. It works like MAGIC for my skin, but everyone has different skin, so you may get different results. You can also use Wrinkle Cream but be careful in choosing skin cream because you never knew your skin is sensitive and may cause to skin allergies.

I have found that using olive oil on your legs, works wonders. Just massage in, and let sit for 10 minutes, then rinse it off. I don't suggest using it on your face, because will most likly clog your pores and cause acne.
Also. I know this is off topic, but i can't keep this secret to myself. IF you have dry hair, you can masage in olive oil into your hair starting at the ENDS and working your way UP. . I know it sounds crazy, but leave it in for 5 minutes, and i PROMISE you will see a difference.

I've recently been having problems with dry skin especially during the winter time. I found that it had to have been the products i was using. Then i switched to aloe vera gel. And so far its been doing great on my skin. I dont have problems with dry skin no more and it perfectly moisturizes my oily skin. Ive also been noticing alot less oil on my skin which means less acne :)
