Yeast infection refers to the infection caused by the fungus candida albicans. Yeast infections are also known as candidiasis. Around 90 percent of women suffer from vaginal yeast infections. Yeast are a very small organism that are present on the skin and vagina. There fast growing on the skin is controlled by the right bacteria balance and in vagina proper acidic balance prevents it from growing. Home Remedy for Yeast Infection
My home remedy for a yeast infection is plain yogurt on a sanitary pad. It will not only remove the itch right away, it will kill the yeast infection as well. It really is fool proof. A bit messy but worth it.

I have suffered from yeast infections every month since I was a young girl, until now..
To stop yeast infections from coming back: The key is to ALKALIZE your body. Fungal (and bacterial) overgrowth in the body LOVE an acidic environment.
READ Alkalize or Die by Theodore A. Baroody - Its cheap and fantastic for pretty much any health problem:
*Eat a healthy diet with plenty of fresh fruit and veges (preferably organic), good fats and oils and quality proteins and grains, herb teas, lemon water, filtered/spring/boiled water with a couple of drops of lemon juice.
*Have 2-3 chloryphyll drinks per day - I SWEAR by this as since I started I no longer have yeast infections. I use Morelife Phytofood Greens in powder form, 1 tsp twice a day.
*Exercise 3-4 times a week but not to the point of exhaustion
*Keep these foods to a REAL minimum: processed foods, white sugar, sweet foods (instead you can get sugar from natural sources like fruit, unprocessed honey, dried cane juice, brown rice syrup etc)

#28 - jk123 - 03/08/2009 - 20:22
I know from past experiences that some of the main causes for yeast infections are tight clothing and dirty hands. Please ladies, make sure your man (or woman) washes their hands completly before they touch you! Its amazing how many people dont do this and wonder why they have an infection. No matter how clean the hands look..WASH THEM! Especially before intercourse and changing tampons/pads.
#29 - Brittany - 03/17/2009 - 14:52
BORIC ACID the best remedy ever.
Get natural capsules at the herbal store and boric acid at the pharmacy and fill 2 capsules with boric acid. Insert high into the [@] preferably at bedtime and by morning no more yeast. Works great for me. Also a diet similar to Atkins diet with no sugar or carbs also works.
Hope all of you ladies get rid of this horrible thing that I suffered from for more than 10 yrs.

i didnt know it was yeast infection until now because i was 16 when i got it.

#35 - ashley - 04/07/2009 - 15:46
use a clove of garlic. Insert into the [@] ,leave it in overnight. Repeat for 3-4 days
#36 - Melody - 04/11/2009 - 12:55
I tried yogurt and it instantly helped the itching. I put a glove on, pushed some inside my [@] and rubbed it all around affected area. Also, ladies use a pad, this could get messy. Not sure this will cure my yeast infection, but it sure helps the symptoms! Plain yogurt, no additives such as sugar or FRUIT! If you have a foul smell or yellow/green discharge this could be a serious infection, please see a doctor ASAP, also to the girl wondering about HIV, you CANNOT contract HIV from having a yeast infection, however if you feel you are at risk, get tested and educate yourself so you can protect yourself

#38 - shy - 04/23/2009 - 09:09
does the garlic and the vinegar just ease the symptoms or actually get rid of the yeast on a whole????? what gets RID of it?
#39 - confused - 04/29/2009 - 20:25
OMG thank you whoever suggested using plain yogurt on a pad - two days of itching have FINALLY stopped!
A good home remedy if you're near your period is to just get your period and use cloth pads for a few days instead of tampons. Sometimes this will clear up a yeast infection without you having to do anything else. It won't do much about the itching, though - for that, use yogurt.
#40 - anneille - 04/30/2009 - 16:48
To #35 Ashley
First, PLEASE get some treatment. Try one of these remedies. Do something. An untreated yeast infection for that long is a terrible thing.
In addition, yeast infections can NOT turn into HIV! It terrifies me that you can even think that's possible, especially if you are now 18. You need to read up on yeast infections and HIV. IMMEDIATELY!!! And please PLEASE don't attempt any s@xual intercourse until you are more informed of STDs, what they are and HOW you get them!!!
#41 - Amanda - 05/07/2009 - 23:28
First off if you jave never had a yeast infection before you need to see your doctor first to make sure that's what you really have. Second becareful with the vinegar and thr probiotics because that can cause your [@] to be too acidic which can be causing the burning. Probiotics can cause an overgrowth of lactobialis which causes the same symtoms of a yeast infection but without the discharge. Lots of STD's have the same symptoms as yeast infections including bacterial infections so seeing a doctor first is your best option then see if a home remedy will work. Good luck ladies.
#42 - erin c. medical assistant - 05/11/2009 - 15:14
Suggest you also stay away from eating food containing yeast and fungi (e.g. Bread, cheese, mushrooms). It was tough adjusting for me at first but it's been worth it! :)
#43 - G. Ching - 05/16/2009 - 15:37
I tried honey for the beginning of the itch and burn, and it worked really good! Put honey on [@] where affected (inside as well, with the itch and all) put undergarment on for 20 minutes, then wash. It worked! The burning and itch were much better with this! Sometimes home remedies are really good, but first, always see a Doctor to be sure!!
#44 - Jenny - 05/22/2009 - 13:59
oh my gosh I did't know you could put tea tree oil up there, doesn't it burn? It sounds kind of dangerous, I use it for my underarms instead of deodorant and it works real good but sometimes it burns a little if I put too much, so I really can't imagine putting it on a tampon and sticking it up there or even rubbing it on there. Also # 32 greenish discharge doesn't sound like a yeast infection, a friend of mine had that symptom and she had to take a round of antibiotics for having contracted gonnoreah I probably did't spell that right but you get the idea, don't wait to go to the doctor because it could possibly make you infertle.
#45 - Rene - 06/01/2009 - 22:07

#49 - Cums - 07/06/2009 - 10:39
I stopped eating starches and sugars, ate a clove of crushed garlic and 6Oz of yogurt everyday for 2 weeks. All this eased the symptoms but did not completely get rid of them. Then I read that red wine is also a probiotic and after 2 glasses of Spanish red, I felt a million times better and the next day the symptoms were gone. Not many websites are linking the benefits of red wine to yeast infections, but it worked like a miracle for me!
#50 - Sha - 07/17/2009 - 15:47
Hey, I agree with the women who said use AZO-yeast. I have had many yeast infections in the last couple of months, and finally my doc said use AZO, and in just a couple of days the symptoms went away, and so did the yeast infection. Best of all you can get it OTC at a drug store, its all natural, and you can use it with other medications. ITS THE BEST! AZO!!!

I suffered it for two years, itching, burning, and discharge. Over the counter and prescription medicine didn’t help. Yogurt didn’t help. I finally cured it by taking probiotics, garlic, Olive leaf extra, and oil of oregano. You can get them at whole food market. I took probiotics and garlic first, it didn’t seem work. Then I tried Olive leaf extra. After finishing half bottle, I tried oil of oregano for two weeks. Then all the symptoms are gone. It is been a year now. The yest infection never comes back. I don’t know which bottle help me cure it. Maybe they all work a little bit. I also took the advice from a book “The Yeast Connection and Women's Health”. Low carb, no sugar, no yeast, no antibiotics.

#61 - praysem - 09/19/2009 - 20:30
There really are so many remedies that work well, diet is really the most important part of preventing yeast infections. All sickness starts in the stomach. I've found taking probiotics daily, consuming cultured dairy products like plain organic yogurt, buttermilk, cottage cheese, and kefir are key to adding the good bacteria back into the gut, and controling the yeast fungus. The Kyo-green drinks daily are also beneficial as well. Stay away from white sugar, white flour, Iodized salt, use sea salt instead. Eat lots of raw vegs. and fruits in moderation because fruits do have natural sugars. If you have one use a juicer, A great juice for getting rid of yeast is a bunch of spinach leaves, washed well, parsely a small bunch 3-4 carrots, one clove of garlic or a peice of ginger root the size of a garlic clove put all these through the juicer, drink 2-3 glasses daily for one week, or longer if you like. Yoga is also wonderful and relaxing stress will weaken our immune system and cause us to remain ill for longer. Also coconut oil applied externally to the [@] is soothing and you can take 1-2 teaspoonfulls daily I mix mine in oatmeal, or a bowl of lentil soup, with lots of onions and garlic of course. All these foods are anti-fungal and should be eaten daily. Drink lots of purified water, walk daily and eat organic as much as possible, cut down on meats, and eliminate processed and junk foods. YOu will see the difference God willing hope this helps some one:-)
#62 - Saleema - 09/26/2009 - 21:59
I have suffered with a back and forth yeast and bacteria battle for the last 2 years. I will be trying a few of these to see if they work. Thanks for the advice.
I will say that you should go to the doctors before trying things because the cure for one will actually make things worse for the other. That is what has caused me the most problems is because I was told I had a yeast infection when I had a bacteria infection which made my body reject treatment. :-(
#63 - Dani - 10/11/2009 - 19:49
Going to the doctor is a good idea, however natural treatments are also great, particularly when pills and antibiotics just bring the infection back :-(

:-( well I have never had such problems with yeast infection until after having my 2 children. Now it seems that after every period I get an infection rarely do they cause itching (which I guess I should be glad) the mainly cause cramping and an awful smell:-( I am embrassed for my 3 year old to hug me around my legs because i don;t want him to ask me what the smell is. I just tried the cleans with Apple Cider and water. I think I am going to give this a try for the next few days. I am in the process of transferring in jobs so my insurance is on hold for 30 days. I looked for yogurt with no sugar but even the plain stuff has 13grams of sugar. I tried Safeway and Walmart. Where do you find yogurt with no sugar?
#71 - help me please - 03/23/2010 - 15:25
I had them so often I had to get health insurance!
whole foods/trader joe's for yogurt but it only sooths the symptoms not cure it. The [@] has to do a ballencing act of yeast and bacteria. So you can actually end up with to much good bacteria or an actual bacteria infection or a yeast infection. The bacteria imbalence occures right before or after your period BUT yeast can actually be cleared up by having a period. Yeast itches and has a doe like oder it's unmistakable. It can burn and feel inflamed and swollen. Bacteria you tend to just feel something is off like your [@] is running a fever and heavy discharge. For bacteria try to do a baking soda douche 3 tsp in water and then feel the rest of the douch with water really really dilute it!!!! You can find travel douch at cvs-wallgreens. Do this every other day 3 times the charm (not just once because ya feel better) [@] but don't have s@x that week it screws up the ballence you are trying to fix. For yeast the ONLY thing that works for me is 3 diflucan pills everother day in combo with tercozol cream perscribed by my doc. Azo dried me out too much and as far as blow drying careful direct blowing into the [@] can kill you google it! Monostat can give 2nd dagree burns. If you have soars or cramping GO TO DOCTOR! Vinager douches can cause yeast infections and it's not that you have bad hygene if you get yeast infections or a bacteria infection some people are two clean. The [@] is like a self cleaning oven so let it do it's job only wash with warm water and mild soap. Good Luck!

To the scared 15 year old, make sure you let your doctor know you are now s@xually active and protect yourself. Don't count on the condom. I was extremely allergic to certain types of condoms and they caused a reaction for me, but you sound like you might have a yeast infection. Be safe and check. Hopefully it's nothing like a STD.

go to the teen/ womans health free clinic. they help more than you think they would. i had the same problem when i was 15 and was scared i had an std but it was simply an allergic reaction to the condom my boyfriend used. just go get checked just in case at the free clinic. your mom will never have to know unless you tell her. continue to be safe and dont have s@x again untill you know for sure what is going on in your body.

I have been itching and scratching down there for nearly four to five days.. It's really scaring me. I am only 14 and I am pretty sure I've got a yeast infection.. I don't want to go to the doctors though.. Or even tell me mom.. Or anyone for that matter.. I am releasing yellow/green dischage as well.. But my house doesn't usually purchase yogurt and when we do it's never the one with no sugar or fruits. Our house also doesn't have apple cider vinegar or whatever that oil was. And I am not going to ask to buy some because that will just raise suspicions ... What do I do?!..

Thanks to this website I now know what to do the next time I have a yeast infection. AZO really does work and while having the infection it helps w/ the symptoms. The tee tree oil does work but it burns. Yogurt works as well eating it or applying it externally.

It irritates me during work. When i'm not working i stay at home whole day with just panty & shirt. The ichiness kills me. I am now 23 weeks pregnant. Thanks for all the comment on this page. I have tried garlic clove & bath with ACV, it works wonders but slight ichiness came back once a while. I plan on eating plain cultured yogurt daily now. Another thing concerns me is my baby during labour. Am so afraid that this will effect my baby, i'm planning to bath baby with ACV and prolly apply yogurt incase if i found any kinda rashes & thrust. Husband and me don't touch on s@x anymore as a precautious. I even advised him bath with ACV regularly. Hope things will be fine in another 4 months. Terrifying to think about my baby.

If you are experiencing any health problems that have you concerned, please refer to your local health clinic or teen clinic. I know that most procedures at the teen clinic are free, and that there are sliding fees (according to income fee) at the your local Department of Health. Ladies you most value your bodies. If you are in pain, please do not revert to having s@x. If your man loves you, then he should understand. If he does not, then he is not for you. I rather wait for the right guy, then to spend my life (time) with the wrong guy. Remember the right guy will not approach you if you are already taken, meanwhile you are with the wrong guy. #95 Make the right choices because God loves you best!

I have to run out and get the plain yogurt but to stop the itching now I tried the Tea tree and Lavender Oil..BIG MISTAKE!!! BURNING, MORE ITCHING AND SWELLING FOLLOWED!! DO NOT USE ESSENTIAL OILS! Then I soaked in Apple Cider vinegar and water.. wasn't sure what the dilution was suppose to be but It stopped the burning and swelling and semi stopped the itching... I wasn't in for very long (10 mins) so a long soak could probably stop the itching. I'm most definitely getting the yogurt though! Thanks ladies!

I visited a doctor and got meds and got got many OTC Meds but nothing takes it away long enough.i started using a scented [@]l wash recently which i will stop but i had this problem before that. I have no discharges this time but my viginal area has fine buttons (alot) and it irritates sometimes. A few years ago i thought it was the sanitary napkin so i changed the brand and its unscentes. I feel so dirty.. and it happens alot when i get my period. What should I do? Do you think my boyfriend will scorn me if I tell him?
#105 - dixie - 04/05/2011 - 22:54
I read one thread of someone who seems like she may have genital herpes to me. I can't remember which number she was. the beginning of an outbreak can be very similar to a yeast infection. the burning and itching is very painful and will definitely complicate your s@x life. if you develope blistery bumps, go get checked. it is very easy to assume that it is" just an infection"
#106 - concerned - 04/13/2011 - 13:48
Girls, Girls, Girls!
Don't mistake an itch with an infection. I though that I had yeast infection many times, while having not discharge, neither smell...just an itch on my exterior labial. Well, I eat well, exercise, have clean s@x, wash 2x daily and always keep my privates nice and clean (including shaved)
My Problem: THE TOILET PAPER...i am allergic to Quilted Ultra Plush Northern...the cheaper the tollet paper the better for my fancy well taken care...[@]cat! Who knew...I guess she is high maintenance...but like "chipo wipes" lol lol lol...
Change your toillet paper and wait and see...

I had suffered from yeast infection before and tried all the home remedy methods ever mentioned from all websites - yogurt, garlic, prescription cream, AVC, honey, vinegar bath, etc etc you name it. Those would only temporally relief the symptom (if ever at all) and then the yeast infection would come back in a week or two. I became worried and desperate. I was so afraid that yeast infection would haunt me for the rest of my life .. until I found out this method that actually works! I have been yeast infection free for 6 months now and positively feel that it's gone for good.
What cured my yeast infection was Boric Acid (I ordered from CVS, picked up the next day, it's non-prescription) and 00 size of gelatin capsules (bought from Whole Food). I filled up half of the capsule with boric acid and inserted into the [@] as deep as I could; once in the morning and again before going to bed. I did this for 7 days and I have been yeast infection free since then.
Also, I mixed 7-8 drop of pure tea tree oil with the same amount of alcohol (50% concentration) in a clean water spray bottle (5-6oz container) and keep in my bathroom. I spray that after I go to the bathroom and dap off with toilet paper to keep the private part dry. This helps soothing and itchness. I still do this even though I do not have yeast infection anymore.
Last but not least, every time after [@], I wash my private part with soup that contain tea tree oil. I believe the tea tree oil helps to protect the yeast infection to come back to me.
I hope it would work for you ladies as well.

Thank you for this article. This is helpful especially for those who are shy to check with a doctor. Just want to know. What would be the effect of using a feminine wash to someone having a yeast infection? Is is advisable to use this? I am having the same problem too and will want to use the natural home remedy for yeast infection.
#109 - Dj - 05/31/2011 - 08:14
Having yeast infection is such an uncomfortable feeling. I am experiencing this too and would want to use the natural remedies of curing this. With the other comments being posted here, I believe natural cure is effective and safe. It is mentioned above to avoid using soap and shampoo. How about feminine wash?

Yip nothing works better than PLAIN white yogurt up the ..... or on a pad , messy but gone and no side effects !!!!
#112 - Nikx - 11/17/2011 - 08:07
I use a cup of water, 5 drops of tea tree oil and a natural sea sponge tampon.
..microwave the cup of water for 5 minutes, then add the 5 drops of tea tree oil, stir then immediately toss the sea sponge tampon in the water leave it in the water until the water is cool enough to take the sponge out, squeeze excess water out of sponge and insert into your [@]....I also do this during my period (instead of traditional tampons) you dont have to worry about TSS and also the tea tree oil kills any oder. :)
#113 - M - 11/24/2011 - 23:05
Doctors do not tell you that taking antibiotic will cause a yeast infection. they want you to come back for another visit. To avoid the yeast infection(1)ask for medicine for the yeast infection along with the antibiotics, or (2)buy the PLAIN YOGURT , systoms will start with in 3days after taking the antibotics. I use a pad, apply cold yogurt to pad and relief come right away. Best time to apply is at bedtime ,but doing the day is okay too. This have been my cure for over 30 years. It is cheap and do work
#114 - oceanwave - 12/19/2011 - 05:42
I put a garlic up my [@]...lined in a cheese cloth so I could pull it out again. As burning as it may sound, it did not hurt a bit.
With that, ladies...CUT DOWN YOUR SUGAR INTAKE!

Thank you very much for all of your comments and suggestoins. From last one month I am going through this problem, my life is just like hell now. Since that time till now taking & applying medicines but ... Very much afraid for my 3.5 years old daughter, I dont want her to take any infection from me. Now I will try home remedies as above. Once again thanks for all of your comments and suggestions. Thanks.

Just ended my antibiotics and I believe it gave me a yeast infection, all I know is I itch. I will be going to the store later today to get yogurt to try that, but in the mean time I found that an ice pack wrapped in a washcloth over the undies seemed to help a bit with the itchy burning feeling. Didn't fully take it away, but enough to allow me to get to sleep. Hoping the yogurt works, that and the cranberry juice. :)

To cure [@]l yeast infection use: Two tablespoon of white vinegar and mix it with 8 oz glass of some warm water, mix it & pour it into the area in the bathtub. Stand up let it drip out and blot dry the area with clean towel. I tried this once and it works wonders. No more infection.
#120 - Chinewf - 06/02/2012 - 11:15
aginal yeast infection and vulvitis cause symptoms that are nonspecific, which means that aside from the yeast infection, other conditions can cause the identical symptoms. The most common symptom of a [@]l yeast infection is itching in the [@]l and/or vulvar area. Other symptoms of [@]l yeast infection and vulvitis include: burning, soreness, pain during intercourse and/or urination, and [@]l discharge. ([@]l discharge is not always present, but when it occurs, the discharge is odorless and typically has a whitish, thick appearance and texture, like cottage cheese.) http://herbal-health-care.net/

I've had itching for years but it's never been very sore. Most of the time foul smell.
#124 - Brie - 10/20/2012 - 15:32
Ladies, if you have a green or yellow discharge that has a smell, you are most likely infected with something. Cardinal signs of gonnorhhea are a green foul discharge with itch, chlamydia the same, any discharge that has a color, and odor could be bacterial and need assistance of a OB-Gyn.
