NATURAL HOME REMEDIES FOR DIARRHEA

Diarrhea refers to the frequent passage of watery unformed stools. It is commonly known as loose motions. It can cause dehydration that in severe cases leads to death. It can be both acute and chronic. The intestine absorbs the water secreted by stomach, liver, and pancreas and from the diet. In case of diarrhea the water is not absorbed properly or sometimes there is excess water secreted by the organs. As a result the intestine is not able to absorb excess of water. People of every age can suffer from diarrhea. Diarrhea for prolonged periods can lead to complications like general weakness due to loss of various vitamins from the body.

Causes of Diarrhea
The various causes of diarrhea are:
  • Overeating
  • Incomplete digestion of the food consumed
  • Putrefaction in the intestinal tract.
  • Viral and bacterial infections
  • Food allergies
  • Bowel disorders

Home remedies for diahrrea
Green tea is an ancient Chinese remedy for diahrrea. Dried blueberries and blackberry brandy is also good. Nutmeg added to any tea will do the trick too.

In the very beginning of a diarrhea attack, the stomach is very upset, and adults should avoid any food or drink for at least 6 hours.

Diarrhea is a condition that we commonly come across in our daily lives. IIt can be quite distressing and debilitating. Advanced and clinically proven safe natural therapies an admixture of homotoxological formulations, vibrionic remedies, and nutritional supplements are known to reduce the chronic tendency for diarrhea or dysentery.* Biogetica offers safe effective products (N5, X4) for treating diarrhea*. They treat the causative factors and reverse the functional changes at the level of the tissue gradients and biochemical processes.* These products are absolutely safe and do not cause a swing in bowel patterns or constipation.*

#14 - bosh-o-rama - 04/19/2010 - 08:46
do not take yogurt! avoid all dairy products during diarrhea, it will only make it worse.
#15 - Janet - 04/27/2010 - 07:23
Diarrhea caused by viruses can often be quelled by first waiting until the stomach and intestines feel totally emptied of all fecal matter, then eat 5 or six green olives and several salty pretzels. They fill up the empty stomach and won't cause the diarrhea to return like it will if you begin to eat normal food too soon. I have done this many times and it always works for me. The important thing is to be sure you wait until the stomach and intestines are totally emptied out first.
#16 - Lola - 05/29/2010 - 21:06
Do not try the dill pickle juice remedy for the trots. You will feel like your shitting glass!>-(

First and foremost it is important to recognize why you are having diarrhea. If it is caused from bacteria overgrowth in the colon, usually an antibiotic will be given. Probiotic pills aid in healthy bacteria and can help with the diarrhea along with gas.
#21 - corinna - 07/21/2010 - 18:12
warm strong tea WITH NO MILK or dairy such as cheese or butter as tea contains TANNINS which helps control diarrhoea .Also capsules of pomegranate, turmeric, and artichoke. But i think cranberries is aNO.NO it cures constipation however i have concluded that different things act for different people so try everything mentioned
#22 - terencec - 08/08/2010 - 13:51
If your diarrhea is a side effect of antibiotics, yogurt is definitely good because of the active cultures.
#23 - gorba - 10/12/2010 - 17:44
FIRST determine the cause ! Sometimes, your body needs to flush out something bad. In that case, drink lots of water and use the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, apple and tea) until things settle down. If antibiotics caused the diarrhea, yogurt is helpful, in addition. A call to your pharmacist will cost nothing and can be helpful in directing you to a cure, usually without the cost of anything exotic or even medical.

i TOTALLY DISAGREE ABOUT THE PINEAPPLE- IT HELPS TO BREAK DOWN FOODS(PAPPAIN)- MORE DIAHREAH

IN KOREA WOULD BE WHITE RICE PORRIDGE VERY OFTEN
#26 - kim - 11/11/2010 - 17:25
ONE MORE THING PINAPPLE IS NOT GOOD IS BECAUSE WHEN YOU MARINADE MEAT TO TENDER AND IF YOU LEAVE IT TOO LONG AFTER MARINADING IT, THE MEAT WILL FALL APART WHEN YOU COOK IT! THERE YOU GO. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE, TRY IT OR EVEN SEE MOST OF ALL THE DIGESTIVE ENZYMES -PAPPAINE.(BREAKS DOWN HARD TO DIGESTING FOOODS.

Strong black tea + 10 drops of lemon will stop usually. But, for virus treatment consult the doctor.
Even, Allopathy doctor will give anti-biotic & suggest for natural treatment only.

I can't believe hot chocolate is listed... For me, that actually causes explosive diarrhea.
#30 - Chichi - 12/19/2010 - 01:04
When i was young i had Diarrhea for almost one whole week. After trying everything else my mother went to an old fashioned remedy which was whiskey. you burn the alcohol out of it then when it cools you drink it. you probably need about a 1/3 cup to burn.. watch the blue flame, it's very hot. this remedy is also good for rotten belches.

I'm thinking food allergies are the main trigger of this awful 'experience'. Maybe scheduling an appt. with an allergist will help. I just made some Tea, wish me luck! :-P

Why is hot chocolate on the list?! I would think that dairy and chocolate would only make diarrhea worse!

Well I'm about to drink some arrrowroot water - I hope it works :-)
#46 - Done being sick - 04/02/2011 - 15:52
I had a diarrhea on time. As i remembered my mom, boiled rice. The best part was the upper portion which is called "lanot" or the sticky juice . I took it in a replacement of water. She put a pinched of salt in it. I continued drinking until my diarrhea was gone. I was almost going to the hospital for dehydration but for the help of Home cure remedies. Thanked God, i did not spend a penny...try it..
#47 - Got to Go - 04/04/2011 - 15:50

if your having diarrhea, dont try to stop it imediatley.
your having diarrhea becuase your stomach wants to expel something it doesnt want.
so let it go for 4 to 5 times.
then if you really need to stop it.
use arrow root powder in a glass of water and boil it until its sticky.
drink it or eat it , it will be prepared as the type as you make.
drink twice a day.
its a great remedy for diarrhea.
#49 - jacky - 04/14/2011 - 08:46

It always amazes me how people still believe in witchcraft/voodoo/magic potions/cauldron broths even in such a modern society.
I came here looking for good evidence of some proven theories, and the only evidence I see is evidence I shouldn't listen to natural health remedy websites.
Every one of you has a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT SOLUTION for the SAME PROBLEM. Does that not make you think "hey hang on, they can't ALL be right" and even the main article is extremely conflicted on advice to give.
I'm sticking to scientifically proven medicine. One type of drug (many brand names, but same solution) and if ya allergic to it, there's one other drug that is slightly less effective.
No more stuffing around with this black-magic superstitious voodoo witch brew stuff for me. I'm surprised there was no call for "eye of newt" Haha
#52 - Evan - 04/29/2011 - 13:19
Natural remedies aren't "voodoo magic" they're what the world gave us in the first place to rid of these things. :/ Nature isn't a bunch of random green things. They have purposes and wonderful chemicals and fruits that give our bodies what they need to feel better. Modern medicine can only do so much for people. They don't even affect me anymore.

Btw, Honey and lemon in tea always works best for me. :)
#53 - Kaela - 06/02/2011 - 22:18
I know rice water is good for babys. Also, natural medicine is not voodoo. If you think so, sit outside a health food store for a while and watch the people that come out..then do the same at your local pharmacy. Who looks healthier?
#54 - Dana - 10/14/2011 - 17:07
This is my second day with the crud. I have a bacterial or viral form of diarrhea. So I used Pepto for a while, didn't eat anything but oatmeal with honey and cinnamon, and that concoction worked because oatmeal is an herb that soothes your stomach, honey kills nasty critters, and cinnamon dries and kills bugs, too. Then I ate something bad the next day, and the runs started again. So I'm on the honey treatment, and it is working so far. This isn't voodoo. Diarrhea has a variety of causes, and the remedies vary from person to person depending on their very individual constitutions.
#55 - juanito - 10/18/2011 - 22:18
I am cured of diarrhea. Last night, after eating honey and not getting good results, I tried some "Herbal Authority Echinacea and Golden Seal Root" liquid concentrate and two capsules of ginger root, and shortly thereafter felt much better. I repeated the dosages before bed and had a good night's sleep. The results were so immediate, they surprised me! Veritas est.

Some people (Evan) feel the need to rag out others, and that's too bad for them....but we need not make it our problem. We have a big enough one to solve, how in the heck do we get rid of the runs? lol. Usually, following the "BRAT" rule works, eat bananas, rice, apples and toast. Peace.
#59 - getyourwings - 12/06/2011 - 14:55
I havent heard of any of these remedies, I've always used a teaspoon of pure vanilla extract. Tastes horrible, but works. My aunt gave it to me once when I was younger swore by it ever since. I hate taking things like immodium and pepto as they make you stop shi*ting all together!
#60 - somegirl - 12/06/2011 - 21:44

Ok well i have had this diarrhea problem for a week now. At first I thought that it was the stomach flu because my whole family had the stomach flu. Then I didn't puke or have diarrhea for a day so I went to school but my stomach hurt a lot. Then after 2 nights of barley eating I puked out what I did eat. So basically I havent eaten for one week straight. Then the next morning I had diarrhea but it looked like puke because I could see food in it and it was light.! What is wrong with me???
#64 - Sick girl - 02/24/2012 - 07:57
I have some serious health problems and returned home from the hospital with a prescription for an antibiotic. Started it on Monday and by Tuesday had diarrhea. I called the Dr who prescribed it and was told to get a stool [@]ysis because they were afraid I had picked up C-Dif while in the hospital. Instead I told them I wanted to try to stop it on my own and proceeded to eat small amounts of yogurt, take acidophilus, drink water and tea with honey. So far, so good. Since the yogurt and acidophilus seem to be working I assume that it was caused by the antibiotics.
#65 - Gracie - 02/29/2012 - 21:29
HAD IT FOR 2 WEEKS NOW . DOCTORS GAVE ME THE ANTIBIOTICS AND UP SET MY STOMACH. I AM TRYING TO STOP WITH HOME REMEDIES.YOGURT WORKS. KHASH KHAS(POPPY SEEDS WORK TOO). ROASTED METHI SEEDS AND ROASTED CUMIN SEEDS BOTH GRINDED TAKEN WITH YOGURT. DIARRHEA CAN BE CAUSED WITH MANY DIFFERENT WAYS. AND TREATMENTS ARE DIFFRENT. SOME PEOPLE ARE VERY IGNORENT ABOUT HOME REMEDIES. NOME REMEDIES ARE SAFE .NO SIDE EFFECTS.
#66 - malika - 04/09/2012 - 21:04
I have had it for 5 days now. After reading the suggestions, I checked my pantry and decided to try chamomile tea and mashed potatoes. So far, so good. I have not had to run to the bathroom for several hours and my stomach feels better.

EAT YOGURT IF POSSIBLE GREEK OR FULL-FAT YOGURT AND EAT APPLES. NEVER TAKE ANY FRUIT JUICE.

I AM SORRY THAT EVAN THINKS ITS VOODOO. DOGS EAT GRASS FOR THEIR STOMACHS AND WE DON'T HAVE TO TELL THEM TOO. NO MEDICARE FOR THEM YA KNOW. ALSO, IN MY CASE, MY GRANDMOTHER TOLD US THAT AMERICAN [YELLOW] CHEESE WOULD WORK. I WAS ON HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD, FELT MY STOMACH START GURGLING AND I WENT TO THE RESTROOM IN A RESTAURANT. I DIDN'T MAKE IT. HAD TO THROW MY UNDERWEAR AWAY. I CAME OUT AND WENT TO THE DELI AND ASKED FOR A PIECE OR 2 OF CHEESE...I MADE IT HOME WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
#72 - WISDOM - 09/29/2014 - 07:21
WHEREAS WITH MY GIRLFRIEND, SHE CAN GET RELIEF ONE TIME AND CONSTIPATED THE NEXT. IT ALSO COULD NOT ONLY BE THE MEDICATION SHE IS ON, ONE OF WHICH HAS A SIDE AFFECT OF DIARRHEA...I ALSO DRINK A LOT MORE WATER THAN SHE DOES AND I EXERCISE [JUST COMPLETED MY 5000TH PUSH UP ON THE ROAD TO 10,000].
#73 - WISDOM - 09/29/2014 - 07:26
Firstly, i am an engineer, with no patience with crazy unsubstantiated claims. Practical experience and proven from results from reliable sources are enough proof for me.
As a kid, I got the trots often as personal hygeine is not what it is today. Half a junket tablet taken with water would fix a dose of the runs in 30 minutes every time. You would need a larger dose for an adult.
#74 - Rob - 09/24/2015 - 16:50
I have used Imodium before with bad results. It may stop diarehea but it binds you up and you cannot do number two in the commode afterwards for over one week. Very bad stuff. Do not use at all ever. You will be sorry you did. Larry
